While the Prime Video Tech website is brand new, what some of you might not know is that Prime Video has actually been around for over 15 years. We launched in 2006 as an offering called Amazon Unbox, where customers in the United States could download somewhere around a thousand movies. In 2011, we shifted our efforts to focus on streaming, became part of the Amazon Prime subscription, and began creating our own original content.
Today, things couldn’t be more different. Right now, Prime Video has a vast catalog and you can stream content on hundreds of device types. We support over 30 different languages, operate in more than 240 countries and territories, and delight more than 200MM Prime Members worldwide. Almost anywhere in the world, you can log in to Prime Video and enjoy your favorite content, including award-winning Amazon Originals, exclusives, live events, and more.
Achieving this has meant quickly solving many hard technical problems. We’ve had to leverage computer vision and machine learning (CV/ML), specialized hardware, and massive distributed systems at global scale to support hundreds of millions of customers. All this would be impossible without our incredible technology and amazing technologists. Our journey has been a unique one. I’ve been with Amazon for over 17 years and now lead Prime Video technology. While much has changed over the years, one thing has remained a daily constant: our relentless focus to deliver for our customers. Our mission is to be a global entertainment destination.

I find it liberating and quite energizing that, every day, the people and teams behind the technology at Prime Video and Amazon Studios work to provide an unparalleled experience for our customers. Here, you can be a builder, solve complex problems, have deep ownership, and experience the unique opportunity to dream big and build audacious products. But, as with all our products, we’re constantly evolving and improving as an organization, celebrating our successes, and asking what can we do better; for our partners, our employees, and our customers. That’s what keeps me here.
I’m deeply proud to work alongside and learn from so many talented individuals. This website is the story of our teams. It charts our innovation at the intersection of technology and entertainment. How we’ve solved problems and built solutions at scale, often for the first-time ever on any streaming service. It’s about how we use science, engineering, product, and processes to overcome obstacles and invent on behalf of our customers. Of how we grew, adapted, and pushed the boundaries of what’s possible.
